Paws Bokeh Photography

I’m pretty new to the photography world but when I saw Christmas tree bokeh ideas online, I had to try it.

What better shapes than cute paws? To create this shape, I used 1/8″ & 1/4″ punch on the heavyweight cardstock.  Then, I cut a strip of cardstock to add to the bottom so the paw shape can sit in the middle without any uncovered area when placed on the lens.

Then, I simply adjusted the camera using 50mm f1.8 to ISO 100(I had a bit of window light coming in), f1.8 and 1/15 speed for this particular photo. I had such a hard time when I first tried to make the photo intentionally out of focus. I realized it’s much easier to achieve this by turning the focus to Manual. That did the trick.

I put my camera on the tripod and simply adjusted the focus with my right hand and held the cardstock with my left hand. When I was satisfied with the size, I took the photo.

Have fun experimenting different shapes!  Make sure the shape isn’t bigger than 1/2″ x 1/2″ because I did an experiment with 1″ x 1″ balloon punch, it only showed 1/2 of the balloon.

Have a PAWtastic holiday season!
